# Asset sources

Asset and license review performed on 16 October 2026. All assets below are downloaded and served from this application's `public` directory. No random-image endpoints, remote font imports, AI-generated city photography, or runtime image hotlinks are needed. These are free licensed assets; no paid stock collection was used. A license is not an endorsement of SwedenStart.

## Self-hosted typography

The two Latin WOFF2 files total 54,824 bytes (about 53.5 KiB). The supplied Latin subsets include Swedish å, ä and ö. User names outside the Latin subset fall back to the browser's system font; name validation must not restrict users to these font glyphs. Use `font-display: swap`. There are no browser requests to Google Fonts.

### DM Serif Display

- Role: selected marketing headings; normal style, weight 400 only.
- Local file: `public/fonts/dm-serif-display-latin.woff2` (17,844 bytes).
- Local license: `public/fonts/DM-Serif-Display-OFL.txt`.
- [Source project](https://github.com/google/fonts/tree/main/ofl/dmserifdisplay), [license source](https://github.com/google/fonts/blob/main/ofl/dmserifdisplay/OFL.txt).
- Copyright notice: Adobe 2014–2018, Reserved Font Name `Source`; Google LLC 2019. The original copyright notice and full SIL Open Font License 1.1 are preserved in the local license.
- [Downloaded WOFF2 URL](https://fonts.gstatic.com/s/dmserifdisplay/v17/-nFnOHM81r4j6k0gjAW3mujVU2B2G_Bx0vrx52g.woff2).
- SIL OFL 1.1 allows embedding and redistribution with software, including commercial software, while preserving notices and license. Do not sell the font on its own.

### DM Sans

- Role: body and application UI; restrict CSS use to normal weights 400, 500 and 600.
- Local variable font: `public/fonts/dm-sans-latin.woff2` (36,980 bytes). The same official WOFF2 resource is supplied for all three requested weights; its WOFF2 table directory contains `fvar`, `gvar` and `HVAR`. Declare its CSS weight range as `400 600` rather than duplicate network resources.
- Local license: `public/fonts/DM-Sans-OFL.txt`.
- [Source project](https://github.com/google/fonts/tree/main/ofl/dmsans), [upstream authors](https://github.com/googlefonts/dm-fonts), [license source](https://github.com/google/fonts/blob/main/ofl/dmsans/OFL.txt).
- Copyright notice: 2014 The DM Sans Project Authors. Full copyright notice and SIL OFL 1.1 preserved locally.
- [Downloaded WOFF2 URL](https://fonts.gstatic.com/s/dmsans/v17/rP2Yp2ywxg089UriI5-g4vlH9VoD8Cmcqbu0-K6z9mXg.woff2).
- License: SIL Open Font License 1.1, including commercial embedding and redistribution subject to its conditions.

Font binaries were downloaded unchanged. They were selected through the [Google Fonts CSS response](https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=DM+Sans:wght@400;500;600&family=DM+Serif+Display&display=swap) and the upstream license files were downloaded from Google's font repository without using Git.

## Integration and verification

- Supply explicit image `width` and `height`, appropriate `srcset`/`sizes`, and meaningful alt text. Do not lazy-load the primary hero. Prefer `fetchpriority="high"` on the one hero actually selected. Lazy-load images below the fold.
- WOFF2 signatures and image dimensions were checked locally. The full panorama, its 4:3 crop, the harbor source preview, and the 800px harbor portrait were visually inspected. WebP encoding used the locally installed `cwebp` binary at quality 80 (landscape) or 82 (hero/portrait).
- Keep the two font license files when redistributing the application.
- Attribution must follow the photograph actually displayed. Do not label either Wikimedia photograph as Unsplash.
- No Git operations, deployment, paid assets, live hotlinks, or generated city imagery were used for this asset task.

## Reference-led redesign — 16 October 2026

The supplied design image is used as a visual reference. The implemented site uses real photographs, an original path-to-Sweden mark, source names rather than agency logos, and working links to the existing application. No testimonials or partnerships have been invented.

### SwedenStart identity — updated 19 October 2026

- Original vector artwork: `public/images/swedenstart-mark.svg`, shared by the header, footer and account layout through `resources/views/components/brand.blade.php`.
- Meaning: a small starting point and a continuous winding path leading to a larger circular destination represent planning a move, one step at a time.
- The blue route and yellow waypoints reflect the “Your path to Sweden” tagline. The mark contains no flag, Nordic cross or official emblem.
- The route has a bold, rounded stroke; the larger destination and contrasting centers keep the two endpoints distinct at small sizes.
- `public/favicon.svg` uses the same geometry with a warm white background for small browser tabs and light or dark browser chrome.
- The symbol is decorative beside the visible SwedenStart wordmark; home links retain their accessible name, `SwedenStart home`.

### Riddarholmen waterfront

- Work: *Riddarholmen islet, Stockholm.jpg*.
- Creator: Batintherain (English Wikipedia).
- [Source and public-domain release](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Riddarholmen_islet,_Stockholm.jpg).
- [Original image](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ca/Riddarholmen_islet%2C_Stockholm.jpg), 1,281 × 841 pixels.
- The creator released the photograph into the public domain worldwide, with an unrestricted fallback permission where release is not legally possible. The source page was inspected on 16 October 2026.
- Local files: `stockholm-riddarholmen-1280.webp` (1,281 × 841) and `stockholm-riddarholmen-800.webp` (800 × 526).
- Changes: resized, converted to WebP, metadata stripped; CSS controls the displayed crop and white readability overlay. Used for the landing hero and Open Graph image.
- Credit remains available in the public footer's Photography credits disclosure.

### Gamla stan alley

- Work: *Alley in Gamla Stan, Stockholm.jpg*.
- Creator: Ole Neitzel (Wikimedia account `OleNeitzel`).
- [Source and license evidence](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Alley_in_Gamla_Stan,_Stockholm.jpg), reviewed 16 October 2026.
- License: [Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/), allowing commercial reuse and adaptations with attribution, a license link, and a description of modifications.
- [Downloaded 960 × 1,440 thumbnail](https://thumb.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/17/Alley_in_Gamla_Stan%2C_Stockholm.jpg/960px-Alley_in_Gamla_Stan%2C_Stockholm.jpg).
- Local file: `stockholm-old-town-960.webp`, 960 × 1,440 pixels.
- Changes: converted to WebP, metadata stripped; CSS controls the displayed crop. Used in the landing-page editorial section and authentication layout.
- Display credit: `Gamla stan by Ole Neitzel / Wikimedia Commons · CC BY 4.0. Resized and converted to WebP; displayed with a crop.` Source and license links are provided in the public footer.

The closing waterfront photograph continues to use Richard Maack's licensed harbor image documented above. All displayed photographs and fonts remain self-hosted.

## Dashboard reference update — 16 October 2026

The dashboard welcome banner reuses Richard Maack's licensed Stockholm harbor photograph (`stockholm-harbor-640.webp`, `-1280.webp`, `-1920.webp`), with a responsive bottom-aligned crop and readability overlay. Visible source and CC BY 4.0 links are provided in the banner, including a cropped-image notice. The small guide card reuses Batintherain's public-domain Riddarholmen photograph. All source, license and modification evidence is documented above; no new external assets were downloaded. The supplied dashboard image guides layout only. Agency names use generic, locally drawn SVG symbols rather than copied agency logos.

## Clearer landing hero — 16 October 2026

- Work: *A body of water with buildings along it*, Stockholm, Sweden, by Grégoire Thibaud (`gthibo`). Published on Unsplash on 23 August 2022.
- [Photo page and free-download evidence](https://unsplash.com/photos/a-body-of-water-with-buildings-along-it-BdB-iWVmbco), reviewed 16 October 2026. The page explicitly identifies this as a free photograph under the Unsplash License.
- [Unsplash License](https://unsplash.com/license): permits free download, modification and commercial use. This is the standard free collection, not Unsplash+.
- [Downloaded 3,000 × 1,923 JPEG](https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1661249848076-929bdf14f679?fm=jpg&q=90&w=3000).
- The image was visually inspected before use. It replaces the lower-resolution Batintherain photograph in the landing hero. The existing public-domain image remains in use elsewhere.
- Local derivatives: `stockholm-waterfront-thibaud-800.webp`, `stockholm-waterfront-thibaud-1600.webp`, and `stockholm-waterfront-thibaud-2560.webp`. Encoded with WebP quality 85 and sharp chroma handling, resized proportionally, with metadata stripped. No generated or added city details.
- The hero uses responsive `srcset` selection, explicit intrinsic dimensions and high loading priority. Existing CSS controls the crop and readability overlay. The social preview uses the matching 1,600px image.
- Voluntary photographer/source and license links are present in the public footer's Photography credits disclosure. All image files are self-hosted; there are no runtime stock-photo requests.
